Welcome back to terms 2! It is very exciting for us all as this will be the term that we get our unit of work started. At MEPS, we have already made up our own marketing companies and created logos, colours and names to match. We have been working hard on creating cover letters and brochures in order to introduce ourselves to local stores and fruit shops. We are doing this because we want to find out where fruit comes from and how it gets from the farm to our dinner plate. We are also learning to be persuasive as we are all competing to get the stores attention and business.

Over the holidays, many of the Bradbury’s visited local shops in order to get information on how they keep their produce so fresh and how it is selected. We are eagerly awaiting their repsonse and, if they help us, have decided to create some print and film advertising for their stores. This is all part of our kids4farmers project and has also done wonders for our persuasive writing units of work as we prepare for NAPLAN.

Our North Star friends are lucky enough to live on the farms where much of this wonderful produce comes from. Throughout his term, they will be helping us track the planting, growth and maintenance of this produce. Like us, they will be using cameras and video camcorders to record their learning. You will soon begin to see just how clever they are. We have sent a Flip Camera from MEPS in order to help with their recording and video making.

I encourage all parents to ask their children just what they are doing and what they have learned. We will need your assistance when dealing with stores as no child should be dealing with shopkeepers by themselves. We will hopefully be taking some pictures of the stores shortly in order to create some ads. If you can help your child in this matter then all the children and staff at both Merrylands East and North Star Public School would be most grateful!
